This volume presents a comprehensive view of doctoral research conducted at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest within the broader field of English and American Studies, including papers on literature, history, linguistics, applied linguistics and language pedagogy. Many of the research questions addressed in the papers are original and novel, investigating issues which are central to the international research agenda. The eighteen original articles are grouped around five main topics. "Narration and structure" represents the work done in English and American literature. "Literature and the arts" reports on the links between literature and music, films, and the visual arts. "Borders and battlefields" shows some of the approaches to U.S. and comparative history and politics. "Discourse and genre" contributes to the line of research on aspects of text structure produced in English for Specific Purposes. "Language teaching, language learning" highlights problems typically encountered by Hungarian learners of English. The papers contribute to the network of fora in English and American scholarship.
